Web Design
Gale Champion, Editor

How many days in the past week have you used the Internet? If you're like millions of people all over the world, the answer is probably "every day." Because the Internet has become our daily "go to" tool for staying in touch, paying bills, working, and entertainment, good Web design is more important than ever. Students are learning the basic principles of Web design earlier every year, and some students (under teacher supervision) are even in charge of their school's Web site. Building a Web site can be a lot of fun, but also requires knowledge and skills in many different areas, such as graphics, layout, problem solving, and more.

Be sure to read our interview with a professional Web Designer to better understand the skills that should be taught in Web Design classes. The Teacher Talk article focuses on how teachers and students can stay current in the quickly changing world of Web design trends and technology. We've also included an excellent list of associations and organizations that provide online membership submissions, along with helpful articles, information, and other resources. Don't miss the Teacher Created Lesson Plan with step-by-step instructions and a training video that demonstrates the creation of a company Web page using Microsoft Word. Last but not least, see the excellent online tutorials in our Resource Center for Macromedia Dreamweaver MX2004 & 8, Fireworks MX2004 & 8 and Flash MX2004 & 8.

P.S. Valuable teaching tips for your Web Design classes can be found at the glencoe.com Web site. Select Teaching Today and do a "Web design" word search to find many helpful Web design tips.
