Convert Microsoft Office 2007 Files

If you attempt to open a Microsoft Office 2007 file on a computer that has an Office 97-2003 suite installed, you will receive the following message:

This file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Word. Do you want to download a compatibility pack so that you can work with this file?

When you see this message, click OK to download and install the compatibility pack.

To install the compatibility pack, your computer must have one of the following Microsoft Operating Systems installed:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Your computer must also have one of the following Microsoft Office versions installed:
  • Microsoft Word 2000
  • Microsoft Word 2002
  • Microsoft Office Word 2003
Depending on your school's policies, you may need to use administrator rights to install the download. After the installation is complete, the program will open so that you can start to access and edit Office 2007 files. However, note that some of the new features and fonts in Office 2007 will not be available in Office 2003.

You can also download the Compatibility Pack directly from the Microsoft Web site.
