This lesson plan is a great way to kick off your Desktop Publishing or Computer Applications class. Students will create a brochure about themselves. They will provide information about their favorite hobby, family information (including any pets), their favorite restaurant, and favorite food. Students will also discuss what other computer classes they have taken or what interests them about this class.

Objectives:
  • To use graphics programs in connection with Microsoft Word®.
  • To show mastery of importing outside sources into the program and using correct procedure for layout and design.
  • To review programs learned in earlier classes.
Skills Covered:
  • Find, retrieve, and copy artwork from the Internet or other source
  • Size, locate, and lay out the art work in an organized fashion
  • Use a digital camera and a scanner
REMINDER: Criteria for your project

There should be at least 13 pieces of art and 3 different fonts.
  • 3 scanned pictures
  • 8 Internet pictures
  • 2 digital camera pictures
  • Use Times New Roman or Arial for the body of your paragraphs
  • Use the fancy fonts for HEADLINES ONLY
  • Add citations for all images
  • Complete a spell check.
  • Make sure graphics are properly inserted.
  • Do not use Microsoft Clip Art. All art must be retrieved from outside sources.
