Glencoe Lesson Planner Plus

Planning time … is there ever enough of it?

As a busy teacher with multiple classes to plan for, I look for any edge to assist my students in receiving a quality lesson. Many Glencoe/McGraw-Hill programs include Glencoe Lesson Planner Plus—a powerful CD-ROM-based tool that can be used for teacher planning and resource integration. I use Lesson Planner Plus in my planning for my computer application course. As a complement to the Glencoe iCheck 2003 textbook, Lesson Planner Plus helps me plan daily, weekly, and semester goals for the students.

Initially I set up the class times, frequency, and “no-class” parameters. Then I select the units I want to cover in the semester. (The goals of my course include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.) Lesson Planner Plus maps out the schedule and resources required to meet the goals. I also produce an online calendar and planning guide that assists my students in staying current with assignments and knowing when tests and projects are due.

Another convenient tool is the Teacher Resources tab. This tool allows me to add additional activities and projects to the unit activities.

In my student-centered computer lab, students work at their own pace. Using the Glencoe supplemental materials allows students who are ahead to complete more advanced activities and projects.

PDF versions of all the projects are located on the Lesson Planner Plus CD-ROM. I can copy and install these projects and student files on the school server. This allows students to access the projects and activities from any computer on the campus. Depending on the school's policies, a teacher also can install the materials on their Web site, permitting student access from the Internet.

Other handy tools contained in Lesson Planner Plus include the following:
  • A Correlations tab for teachers to include state and local correlations to the materials
  • The Personal Assistant tab for keeping track of schedules, to-do lists, and notes to yourself
A teacher can save and print any section of Lesson Planner-Plus. Lesson plans can be left for guest teachers and are a handy reference when meeting with administrators, parents, or colleagues. Having a permanent record of the goals and plans for your class also is helpful for individualized education plans or Section 504 programs.

Many Glencoe programs also include TeacherWorks™. TeacherWorks™ helps teachers to integrate material from the Teacher Edition into their lesson planning. For more information on Glencoe TeacherWorks™, click here.
